Jazz West was formed by Joe Dyke and Doug Kvandal in 2010 to revisit, rehearse, and perform music from the bebop and cool jazz era, primarily for the enjoyment of its band members as well as audiences at any of its performances.
founded a similar group, the "Modern Jazz Quintet", while in high school in the 60's.
Harry Griffen Park
The crowd seemed very receptive and applause was heard after most solos, etc.
Roxanne Fulkerson was our guest vocalist and sang "Sway" and "Since I Fell For You". She did a great job with no rehearsal with the band at all.
Several of Joe Dyke's former students were in attendance (they're peppered throughout San Diego, and there always seems to be at least one or two at many of our appearances).
Our new CD was on sale for the first time.
