Piano - Doug Kvandal
has been a San Diego resident since age 12. He has a B.A. in Music from San Diego State University. He has worked and performed professionally since the age of 15 with several groups, traveling extensively throughout the western US during the 70's, returning to San Diego in the 80's to concentrate on writing, producing and performing radio/tv advertising content. After a 20 year hiatus from the music business, he returned to performing regularly as a solo artist in 2009, and together with Joe Dyke formed "Jazz West" in 2010 and the LiveJazz! Quartet that had a seven year Saturday night residency at the Kings Inn in San Diego's Mission Valley.
Trumpet - William Braxton (Joe) Dyke, Jr.
is a native of San Diego and studied trumpet with David Greeno and Donald Phillips of the San Diego Symphony and John Clyman of Los Angeles. Joe is at home in all genres of music and has performed with the San Diego Symphony, San Diego Opera, San Diego Chamber Orchestra, La Jolla Playhouse, Starlight Theatre, Old Globe, Grand Pacific Band, Young Audiences, Buddy Blue, Ringling Brothers Barnum and Bailey Circus, and various other Jazz, Latin, R&B, Funk, and Soul ensembles from Ragtime to the Temptations Back-up Band. He is a founding member of Millenia Consort, San Diego Chamber Brass Quintet, and Premier Brass, and is guest principal trumpet with the Orquesta de Baja California. Joe has a B.A. in Music from San Diego State University, and an M.A. in Performance, Literature, and Experimental Music from the University of California, San Diego. He taught instrumental music in the La Mesa-Spring Valley School District from 1972 to 2010. He has been married since 1967 to Laurel Ruth Sloan, daughter of Salvation Army officers Brigadier and Mrs. Howard Sloan. They have two sons and six grandchildren.
Saxes- David Burnett
keeps a full woodwind studio and performs regularly in San Diego and surrounding areas. As an experienced soloist and ensemble member, David performs in a wide variety of musical situations. David Burnett has an extensive tour history including 45 states and international locations: House of Blues-Cambridge MA, House of Blues-Anaheim CA, Disneyland-Anaheim CA, Disney's California Adventure-Anaheim CA, Carnegie Hall-New York NY, Wynn-Las Vegas NV, Hard Rock Hotel-San Diego CA, Croce's-San Diego CA, Harrah's-Reno NV, Harrah's-Rincon CA, Viejas-Alpine CA, Quays-Galway Ireland, St Thomas Kirke-Leipzig Germany, Moonlight Amphitheatre-Vista CA, Starlight Amphitheatre-San Diego, CA. David has had the pleasure of performing with Patti Page, Abraham Laboriel, Jeff "Skunk" Baxter and many others
Drums - Jeff Dalrymple
There's many sides to Jeff Dalrymple. When not on the air at Jazz 88.3, Jeff can be found putting his musical talents to work as a percussionist He performs jazz gigs regularly around San Diego and he performed for three decades with the San Diego Symphony. You might see him in the workshop doing a custom stained-glass piece. And, don’t be surprised if you catch a glimpse of him in the pit band at a local theatre gig. That’s just Jeff…arts fan, radio host, jazzy Renaissance man.
Scott Wallingford - Bass
Scott is a native of Chula Vista and has an A.A. degree in Music from Southwestern Community College and a B.A. in Music Theory and Composition from Point Loma Nazarene University. He has been a working musician and music educator in and around San Diego for 30 years. He has experienced many diverse musical opportunities ranging from Pop and Rock bands to Jazz combos, Musical Theatre and Show Choirs
